Meet our Musicians

Madeline Capistran

Violin

Violinist Madeline Capistran grew up in Fargo, ND, where she began studying the violin at age nine with her mother, Jane Linde Capistran. As a teenager, she continued her studies with Sally O’Reilly at the University of Minnesota. Madeline holds a B.M. in violin performance from Michigan State University and a M.M. in violin performance from DePaul University in Chicago, where she studied with Ilya Kaler. As an active chamber and orchestral musician, Madeline was a member of the Northwest Indiana Symphony Orchestra, the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, and the Fargo-Moorhead Symphony, in addition to participating in such summer programs as Musicorda, Meadowmount, the Colorado College Summer Music Festival, the Hot Springs Music Festival, and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Chamber Music Institute. As a soloist, Madeline has performed with the Fargo-Moorhead Symphony, on National Public Radio’s show “From the Top” with pianist Christopher O’Riley, and on WFMT Chicago’s “Relevant Tones” series. Other recent teaching and playing opportunities have included a Visiting Assistant Professorship at the University of Iowa, serving as Violin Instructor at St. Ambrose University, and performing as a substitute violin with the Minnesota Orchestra. She currently teaches at Coe College and is a member of the Quad City Symphony Orchestra, Principal Second Violin of the Des Moines Symphony Orchestra, and Assistant Concertmaster of Orchestra Iowa. Madeline lives in Iowa City with her trombonist partner and their two cats and dog, Bart, Nelson, and Stanley.

Rachel Peters is an active performing musician and private instructor. Peters is the current Concertmaster of Opera in the Ozarks and serves as a member of the violin sections in Orchestra Iowa and the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. She holds faculty positions for violin, viola, and piano at Music House, Inc., Access Contemporary Music, MY Piano Study, and Terra Sounds School of Music. Peters has a passion for contemporary music and has performed the music of Steve Reich during multiple residency programs where she worked extensively with the composer, in addition to being a guest musician with the International Contemporary Ensemble. Her extensive performance career has led her to perform in Cambridge, Beijing, Shanghai, and Hong Kong. She has participated in master classes with artists such as Leonidas Kavakos, Emanuel Ax, Benjamin Zander, Timothy Lees, Joshua Bell, and Janet Sung. Peters completed her Bachelor of Music degree at the College-Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati, Ohio and her Master of Music degree at the Bienen School of Music at Northwestern University where she studied with Gabriel Pegis, Gerardo Ribeiro, and Dr. Won-Bin Yim.

Rebecca Vieker

Rebecca Vieker is a performer and teacher currently residing in Des Moines, Iowa. Born in Detroit, Rebecca began violin lessons at the age of 4 and started taking viola lessons during high school. She completed a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, studying under Jonah Sirota of the Chiara Quartet. She went on to earn a Master’s degree and a Performance Diploma from Boston University, under the tutelage of Michelle LaCourse. She’s currently finishing her Doctorate at the University of Iowa with Christine Rutledge. Rebecca has performed around the country with various symphonies and chamber ensembles. She regularly plays with the Des Moines Symphony and the Lincoln Symphony and has played with such ensembles as the Trans-Siberian Orchestra and Sioux City Symphony. She has had the privilege of sharing the stage with such artists as Joshua Bell, Gil Shaham, and Ben Folds. During her time in Nebraska, she was a member of the Rangbrook Ensemble and Co-founded the Star City Strings Ensemble. While at Boston University, she served as the orchestra manager and rotating principal in the BU Symphony Orchestra. When she’s not teaching or performing, Rebecca enjoys playing and coaching volleyball, hiking, and spending time with her dog, Rey Feta Skywalker, and her husband, Chris.

Hanna Rumora

Hanna Rumora, cellist, is a founding member of Room 1078, a string quartet committed to commissioning, premiering, and recording new works. Hanna has performed with Eighth Blackbird and members of the Silk Road Ensemble, as well as recording alongside the JACK Quartet. As a cross-genre artist, Hanna has performed with varied artists from the Trans-Siberian Orchestra to Michael Buble and a Beatles Tribute band. You can hear her play on Room 1078’s debut album, By the Skin of Our Teeth and an upcoming recording of John Luther Adams’s Sila: The Breath of the World. She recently won the American Prize in Chamber Music with Quartet Granitique and performs in a cello quartet, Hole in the Floor. Hanna is currently pursuing her Doctorate of Musical Arts at the University of Iowa.
